Workshop and Lecture Program Spring & Summer Series 2013 Lecture: Black Patriots & Loyalists & War of 1812 Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 pm Presenter: Syl Woolford The Lecture “Black Patriots, Black Loyalist and the War of 1812” recalls the history of the War to 1812 and focuses on the role of African-Americans and Native Americans during that War. The War of 1812 further separated America from its colonial ruler Britain and resolved some of the lingering disputes between the two nations. Program Costs: $5 FOMH Members Free Space limited, RSVP early Lecture: Agricultural History of Sassafras Neck Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 pm Presenter: Steve Isaacson Come and explore "what's outside your window" as historian, farmer, and MHP Board Vice President Steve Isaacson presents a 400 year history of agriculture and farming on Sassafras Neck. From tobacco, wheat and canning vegetables, to modern large-scale grain production and animal agriculture, our region still provides critical food supplies to people in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.Program Costs: $5 FOMH Members Free Space limited, RSVP early Program: Guided Kayak Paddle Sunday, May 19, from 10am – 12:30pm Presenter: Sultana Projects’ John Mann Join us for a great kayaking excursion on the pristine backwater creeks of the Sassafras with naturalist John Mann from the Sultana Projects’ Kayak Mobile Classroom. Kayaks are supplied. Open to adults and children 12 and up. Space very limited (to first 10). Program Costs: $35 per person Lecture: 100 years of Quilt History Thursday, May 23, at 6:30pm Presenter: Beverly Birkmire Antique lovers will enjoy this special program: “100 Years of Quilt History, 1830 – 1930” presented by Quilt expert Beverly Birkmire. Beverly will be showing antique quilts from that time period along with her discussion of period quilts. Beverly has been quilting since the mid-1970’s and collecting quilts since 2000. Bring your cameras and binoculars and get ready to see some amazing scenery and wildlife.
